Saturday 9th March 1985:
-Mr Murray Farquhar, the former NSW Chief Stipendary Magistrate, has vbeen found guilty of attempting to pervert the cause of justice by a District jury. It took the panel of seven men and five women only five hours to produce what is believed to be the first conviction of a magistrate on a criminal charge in Australian history. The offence, a common law misdemeanour, carries no specified charge. Mr Farquhar was remanded on $10,000 self bail at the discretion of the trial judge until sentencing next Friday.

Sir Terence Lewis Gets 14 Years |
-Former Queensland Police Commissioner Sir Terence Lewis, 63 was today sentenced to 14 years' imprisonment on 15 charges of corruption. Fourteen counts for receiving monthly bribes of $10,000 each and one count of receiving $25,000 to prevent the introduction of poker machines in Queensland. The trial featured evidence claiming Mr Lewis received more than $600,000 in bribes during his time as commissioner.

Norm Gallagher Found Guilty |
Mr Norm Gallagher, general secretary of the Builder's Labourers Federation, was sentenced today amid unprecedented scenes at Melbourne's County Court after being convicted for receiving secret commissions. Mr Gallagher, the subject of intensive investigation since the beginning of the Winneke Royal Commission in 1981, was sentenced to four years and three months with a non-parole period of three years. As Mr Gallagher was taken away to Pentridge Prison, the Courthouse was surrounded by around 400 furious builder's labourers who demostrated against their leader's conviction.

Rex Jackson To Be Charged |
-The former Minister for Corrective Services, Mr Rex Jackson, is to be charged for his corrupt role in administering the prisoner early release scheme within the NSW gaol system, it was announced today. The report of the special commission of inquiry handed down by Justice Slattery recommended the prosecution of Mr Jackson and three other men, Mr Howard Hilton, a Sydney Solicitor, and two businessmen, Mr Frank Hakim and Mr Kieth Harris. The inquiry found that these men may have been involved in manipulating the scheme by allegedly buying early release licences from the minister.
